When our daughter Kyra was born, we thought finding clothing for our outdoor adventures would be easy. It wasn’t.
Every weekend we’d be out fishing, boating, camping or exploring Far North Queensland. We wanted to keep doing everything we’d always loved, just with a tiny new crew member in tow.
The problem was, we couldn’t find anything designed for babies who spent their weekends outdoors.
There were plenty of fishing shirts for adults. There were a few options for older kids. But if you were looking for a baby fishing shirt, a baby fishing onesie or a lightweight baby sun suit that protected little ones from the harsh Australian sun and relentless mozzies, there simply wasn’t anything available. As a first-time mum, it was frustrating.
As someone determined not to give up the outdoor lifestyle we loved, it became the beginning of Little Fisho.
Born on Maternity Leave. Built for Australia’s Outdoors.
Little Fisho wasn’t created in a boardroom or dreamed up by a large clothing company. It started during maternity leave in Port Douglas.
After countless weekends trying to juggle sunscreen, blankets, loose clothing and insect spray, I realised the product I wanted simply didn’t exist.
I wasn’t trying to start a business. I was just trying to solve my own problem. So I designed one.
The result became the UV Defender Onesie, a lightweight, breathable baby fishing onesie created specifically for babies and toddlers who love spending time outdoors.
With full-length arms and legs, fold-over hands and feet, a breathable mesh back panel and an easy two-way zipper for nappy changes, it quickly became the product I wished I’d had from day one.
From One Baby Fishing Onesie to Thousands of Outdoor Adventures
When Little Fisho officially launched in January 2025, I honestly had no idea whether anyone else had been looking for the same thing. It turns out they had.
Since launch, we’ve sold more than 2,000 UV Defender Onesies to families across Australia.
Even more rewarding than the sales has been the stories. Photos of first fishing trips. Camping weekends. Days on the boat. Beach adventures. Families telling us their little fishos practically live in their onesies every weekend.
Because we’re still a small family business, I personally message every customer. Many reply with photos and stories of the adventures they’ve shared wearing Little Fisho.
Watching little fishos grow, seeing families come back for the next size, and knowing something we created has become part of their family memories is still the most rewarding part of this journey.
Why Little Fisho is Now Available at BCF
Our journey to BCF didn’t happen overnight. It started with a trial in just three stores.
The response from families, particularly in Mackay, Townsville and Hervey Bay, proved there was genuine demand for outdoor clothing designed specifically for babies and toddlers.
That local support helped Little Fisho grow from a small family business into a brand that will soon be stocked in 12 BCF stores across Queensland, New South Wales and Western Australia.
For us, being stocked by Australia’s largest outdoor retailer isn’t simply about having products on bigger shelves. It’s recognition that families have been asking for practical outdoor clothing for babies for years. And we’re incredibly proud that Little Fisho is helping fill that gap.
